ABOUT:
Nutrition and food have been a dynamic and evolving science over the last decade. As a young science, changes in nutrition and food recommendations are on-going as longitudinal studies wrap up and new questions arise with emerging food products and food systems. This vulnerable industry has attracted many corporations to capitalize on nutritional messaging, especially targeting schools and children, which has created confusion when making food choices.
The objective of this workshop is to help you sort through the avalanche of information to make sound, logical decisions about food and to help implement mindful decision making into your school culture with strategies for effective change. Here, we consider cultural food modifications and allergies, Canada Food Guide recommendations with plant-based protein emphasis, and nutrition’s impact on mental health alongside children food preferences, behaviour, and age-appropriate cognitive development learning to craft strategies for schools.
